Subaru Probably Won't Redesign the WRX Until 2020
Subaru just released the 2017 Impreza, but if you're holding out for a new WRX or STI, you'll have to wait a few years. According to the latest report, a redesigned WRX won't arrive until 2019 or 2020.
Speaking to Australia's Motoring, a senior engineer at Subaru put a stop to rumors of a 2018 WRX. "The WRX will have a facelift soon, not a full model cycle, because the new model just launched in 2015," he said. "The full model cycle will be about four or five years, and that's when you'll see a full model."
The way he put it, the issue isn't the cost of turning out a new WRX. It's the amount of time it takes to develop a new model. "You can't shorten that production cycle," he said. "There's many things to consider such as durability testing and likewise. It's not as simple as taking the turbo engine out of one car and presto, off you go."
