The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA Is a Hardcore Track-Ready Weapon
Last week, Subaru announced it would be bringing back the hardcore WRX STI Type RA (Record Attempt) to commemorate its latest attempt at a Nurburgring record this summer. Now, the new Type RA road car has officially been revealed, and it looks like one seriously capable machine.
In addition to the carbon fiber roof Subaru showed us on Thursday, the Type RA, limited to 500 units, will receive a host of different engine- and chassis-related upgrades all in the name of lap times.
The engine is the same 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer four that's powered the STI for the last billion years, but this time it's making 310 horsepower—up from 305 in the standard car, thanks to a new cold air intake, a high-flow exhaust, stronger pistons, and a retuned ECU. A six-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox available, and features a revised third gear ratio and short throw shifter in the RA. Read more about the 2018 Subaru WRX STI...
