The Range Rover Sport Goes Plug-in Hybrid For 2019

Before Land Rover could launch its first all-electric vehicle, the brand will electrify its entire lineup using plug-in hybrid technology to ensure the big off-roaders can still enter any city.

The 2019 Range Rover Sport P400e is basically the 300 horsepower gasoline version beefed up with an 85 kW electric motor housed on the transmission at the center of the vehicle, along with the 7kW on-board charger. The charging socket is at the front of the vehicle, while the 13.1 kWh prism-shaped lithium-ion battery is mounted at the rear beneath the boot floor. This means weight distribution remains close to neutral.

In the default Parallel hybrid mode, the car uses both the gas and the electric motors to maximize efficiency. The driver can choose between the save function, which prevents the battery charge dropping below a selected level, and predictive energy optimization, which uses navigation data to choose when to switch between electric and gas power. Then, there's full EV mode, granting up to 31 miles of silent electric cruising. Read more about the The Range Rover Sport...
