"After enduring nearly two months of reduced wages in the midst of rideshare industry IPOs, the 4,200 members of Rideshare Drivers United- Los Angeles will strike both the Uber and Lyft platforms for 24 hours on Wednesday, May 8, demanding that Uber immediately reverse a recent 25 percent wage, and that both companies guarantee drivers a $28 per hourly minimum rate (or $17 after expenses), as already required in New York City.
RDU-LA members will turn off their apps for the entire day throughout the Los Angeles metro area. Members will picket at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) terminals with colorful signs. A rally will be held at noon, where drivers will speak about the impact of withering wages other abuses inflicted by Uber and Lyft as both companies launch their IPOs.
“Uber estimates that 15 percent of their revenues come from airport pick-ups” said Karim Bayumi, a Lyft driver who typically works at the airport. “We provide an essential service, but Uber and Lyft investors are only ones reaping the benefits. Our picket and rally will show that rideshare drivers will not be invisible—we demand justice.”
Uber and Lyft drivers have faced real challenges this month. On March 11, Uber cut driver compensation in Los Angeles from .80 per mile to .60 per mile. Soon after, Lyft eliminated their multipliers, which allow drivers to earn more than the base rate of .80 per mile.
Since the cuts, James Hicks, an Uber driver for three years, says he and his wife “are treading water so that we don’t drown.” The couple were already taking payday loans to afford the $2300 dollars a month for the two-bedroom apartment he shares with his wife. “With Uber’s cuts this month,” Hicks says, “we had to bite the bullet. We moved across the hall into a one bedroom for $1900, which is what our two-bedroom used to cost.”
But while Wall Street and Silicon Valley cash in, drivers continue to bear the brunt.
“Mayor Eric Garcetti rang the bell for Lyft’s IPO just days after our strike, calling them a socially responsible company,” said Sinakhone Keodara, a Lyft driver who has faced housing insecurity. “But creating an underclass of homeless drivers as collateral damage is anything but responsible. Driving for Lyft pays below minimum wage. We need a minimum per hour rate to compensate for the fact that we sometimes miss out on the bonuses.”
In their recent S-1 filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Lyft says they can only be profitable if drivers are treated as independent contractors, which violates California state law. Similarly, Uber told their investors they expect greater driver dissatisfaction in the coming years.
RDU-LA demands major reforms to the industry to make it fair, dignified, and sustainable. Their Drivers Bill of Rights includes a ten percent commission cap, transparency around deactivations, the right for drivers to organize and negotiate with the companies, and community standards around traffic and emissions to ensure that the rideshare industry benefits the cities where it operates."

It's been an awesome journey, but I was finally fired from uber for making videos. The TL;DW of the video - I was fired, I reminisce about what this thing has meant to me and the process of developing this channel and myself, and I talk about moving forward. Thanks for being a part of this adventure, despite the shitty circumstances, I am excited about getting into something new. Hit me up in the comments!

10. Bugatti EB-110
In this case, it was bad hiring that led to a bad wreck. A man turned in his Bugatti EB-110 for some repair work. Given that the car is worth $500,000, it's pretty smart that he wants the car to be maintained. Naturally, the mechanic did the work and then did a "test drive" to make sure everything felt right. So far so good, right?
9. Pagani Zonda C12S
The first rule of having a car is to treat it right, don’t you think? It may not be alive, but you still need to take care of it! Or at least you would think so, especially if you have a Pagani. Well, a guy in Hong Kong didn't respect his Pagani Zonda C12S. While driving in the early morning, he decided to show off the power of his ride, and when he did, he got into a bad wreck. He went off the road and slammed into a fire hydrant.
8. Mercedes SL300 Gullwing
Hearing about a crash at a racetrack isn't exactly a new thing. From Indy Car, to Track Racing, Street Racing, and of course, NASCAR, crashes happen when you have a lot of vehicles going high speeds. In Mexico, a Mercedes SL300 Gullwing crashed during the annual Carrera Panamericana.
7. Crashes At Monaco
What's worse than having your own car damaged? Damaging other cars in the process, and expensive ones at that. In Monaco, there was a "simple" car crash between a Bentley and Mercedes, which by itself already would've been very expensive.
6. McLaren F1
One of the perks of being a famous actor or actress (among other glamorous professions) is that you have the ability to buy expensive cars. But some of them are honestly car enthusiasts. Such as Rowan Atkinson, but you know him as Mr. Bean. He was the proud owner of a McLaren F1, which is valued at $1.2 million dollars. Emphasis on "was" though.
5. Bugatti Veyron
Here's a crash case that'll make you scratch your head. A guy owns a Bugatti Veyron, a car estimated to be about $1.6 million dollars. So if you have this car, you're doing alright. I mean, you have the money to get it (and the insurance to maintain it), so, nothing is going wrong with your life right?
4. Pagani Zonda F Clubsport
Oh look! Another Zonda on the list! Now, the Zonda I showed you before was high-end, but this Pagani Zonda F Clubsport was valued at about $2 million dollars. So this wreck meant a lot more.
3. Ferrari 250 GT Spyder
There's two things you can't predict in this world, human behaviour, and Mother Nature. The latter was the cause of this accident. Now, while the damage was high into the dollar range, I have to give this one a bit of a pass because there's virtually nothing that could've been done to prevent the accident.
2. Hiroshima Ferraris
When you have a group of friends that have the same interests as you, you can't help but enjoy the time you spend together, right? That goes double for car groups, as they love to drive their expensive rides and go to car shows together. Well, in Hiroshima, Japan, a group of people were driving on a highway on their way to a car show that was nearby. Nothing wrong with that. And by the way, these guys were driving supercars like Ferraris.
1. Ferrari 250 GTO
Answer: While number 2 was about a collective car accident, for those of you who guessed, this is the most expensive car to ever be in a wreck, and not surprisingly, it too was a Ferrari. But this one was a very special Ferrari, the Ferrari 250 GTO. A car so beautiful, so special, it's valued between $28-$38 million dollars. That's the actual appraised value of the car...and it got wrecked.

Palm Beach County, Florida --- The crash that investigators say happened at 104 mph led to the arrest of a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy and left another man with serious injuries.
Deputy Brandon Hegele’s trial on a charge of reckless driving is scheduled to start on Aug. 28.
The crash that led to Hegele’s arrest happened May 7, 2016 and sent then 60-year-old Harry Deshommes to the hospital.
Deshommes had a brain injury, fractured skull, a broken left arm, back, ribs and pelvis and had to have his spleen removed, according to court documents.
Brandon Hegele was driving 104 mph westbound on Southern Boulevard when he plowed into the Smart car Deshommes was driving, investigators say.
At the time of the crash, Hegele was on the lookout for a suspect vehicle in connection to a felony, but investigators said he was told three times not to pursue or try to stop the Dashcam video shows him change lanes nine times and only turning on his emergency lights to go through intersections, investigators say. This coupled with the crash led to charges of reckless driving.
Hegele has been on unpaid leave since September 2016. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
